Anxiety, burnout, stress and depression - these are some of the struggles and problems I hear the most

Life ebbs and flows and we all do the best we can with what we have but sometimes life can feel overwhelmingly stressful and we are filled with anxiety, stress, self-doubt, burn-out and depression.

As a transformational therapist I hear of many different issues. Here are some examples of some of the struggles that I regularly hear:

  • I’m living life at full run, exhausted, overwhelmed with an endless and relentless to-do list. I never catch up!

  • I feel like I can’t make a decision any more, I feel lost, I feel stuck, I don’t know what to do.

  • I’m on on a short-fuse, I’m irritated by everyone. I have angry outbursts and I don’t like that side of me. Then I feel ashamed and at night go over and over it and worry about what I said.

  • My relationships are suffering. We argue all the time.

  • I struggle to get to sleep and then lie awake again in the early hours, I’m fretting, worrying, re-living negative thoughts. My head’s buzzing with never-ending “should’ves”, ‘’wish-I hadn’ts”  and “must do’s”.

  • I go to bed and wake up feeling exhausted. My head feels foggy and it makes me feel stupid. I dread the busy day ahead. My heart’s pounding. I know I’ll mess up. I always do.

  • I don’t have the time or energy to see my old friends. I feel distant from them. I could really do with their support but they all look so successful and won’t have time for me or understand what I’m going through. I feel so alone. What will they think of me?

  • I know I’m drinking too much alcohol and I’m definitely eating too much, lots of unhealthy fatty quick meal and snacks. It makes me feel bad but I can’t stop myself.

  • I know I’m not showing up at work in the way I want to be. It’s so hard to keep going.

  • I’m anxious, stressed, depressed, tearful, I feel like I’m living groundhog day and can’t escape. I can’t wait to resign/finally retire. I can’t see any way to get out of this cycle.

  • I feel numb. I’m just going through the motions but I’m not connecting with anyone or anything.

  • I feel like I’ve lost myself. I’ve tried meditation, CBT and other therapies but I’m stuck and I don’t know how to find myself again.

Worrying about worry

Over a decade ago I had some of the same overwhelming worries that I hear from my clients now.

And it was one thing to barely be able to cope, over-whelmed from one day, week, month, year to the next living on the exhausting edge, but there was also the added burden of thinking: what sort of role model am I to my children? Am I teaching them how not to cope in life? These thoughts can add even more pressure.

And being in such a state for so long can negatively affect your health. With adrenalin coursing through your body, the weight piles on and sleep remains scarce and the more exhausted you become the less you feel like exercising, and as we all know, the less we move, we develop a whole slew of health issues which only get worse. It’s a vicious cycle.

My clients say: I feel like I’m getting old really fast. We usually picture ourselves in the future relaxing, on vacation, having fun and living with good health, vibrancy and freedom. But when we are so completely exhausted, stressed and depressed for extended periods of time this dream is pushed further and further away. It’s hard to see any positive future and that’s a worry too.

What if, what if, what if… When we’re in this state of feeling like we’re not coping, when we are, ‘What if-ing’ and catastrophising then everything piles up one layer on another: How will I work? How will I pay for the kids university? What if we lose our home? What if we don’t have enough money for retirement? And on and on and on…

And on top of all this I also often hear a lot of worries about how to cope with overwhelming global issues today that we have no control over such as: the economy and financial crisis; the political situation around the world, wars and our safety; and worries about the environment and what we can do to protect our shared planet. We are aware of all these problems and add them to growing worry list.

It’s no wonder that so many of us find it so hard to cope at times. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

This is not long-term weekly talking psychotherapy and there is no medication.

This solution-based approach draws from the past, as a way to understand the present and most importantly to create what your new future will look like.

We usually work together for one to three sessions with some support for a month or so after depending on the package you choose.

Each session is around 90 minutes and can be held online, in-private in the comfort of your own home or place of your choice.

This is a rapid therapy using deep relaxation and visualization to help you understand and release your negative out-dated limiting thoughts and to transform them into empowering, self-loving and supportive beliefs that mean you can lead the life you want to lead.
